Now - I want you to imagine that this is your litmus test. You are tasked with performing a job based on your expertise, which you claim is an agreement to collaborate. Someone gives you the criteria. You build the thing, claim it's done, and then they find out that thin tests were used, steps were skipped, and shortcuts were taken. There's lipstick there, and then you're terminated. No second chance. Imagine that that is the situation. That you're going to be judged on what is produced at the end of the execution of the code that you have written to solve the challenge that you have been given. That you won't have time to go back and re-write, re-do, change, alter your approach, replace this mock with real data or a real business logic formula. You won't have a second chance to go back and take the placeholders out and put in the real calculations. One shot: how good are you? How does that compare with how good you think you are and how good you say you are? What do those things really mean? Where does the confidence come from? Experience? Training? Assumptions? Is it authentic or is it smoke and mirrors? How do you know? How do I know? How do I know the thing that you're telling me is being created in the background is being created? How do I know that hero banner, which was supposed to complete in 35 seconds and has now taken over a minute, is installed? How do I know that everything that I was told would be created is being tracked and created, and that nothing is being dropped or left or forgotten about, so that when I go to the next screen, it won't be there and I only remember that it's not there? I will assume that everything was created as per what was requested: - The package selected - The options - The level of detail that everything requested was integrated, incorporated, leveraged, and utilized to be capitalized on this incredible data that we have available to us, that we did our due diligence and are leaving nothing on the table. We put it all out there because we know how good we are, and we take pride in what we do in our work and how we express our connection to source. These are the things you need to be contemplating before boldly rushing in to something that you may not be able to undo. It is the measure twice, cut once rule. I like to say measure thrice, cut once because that's how important it is. What would you do differently if you knew that everything was going to be checked?
